Though it may not feel like it quite yet, spring is right around the corner. Before you know it, the snow will start to melt, and the sun will start to stick around a little bit longer each day.
Spring is a time for growth and renewal, so why not do a little “spring cleaning” with your skincare routine to start the season off right? Each new season brings new skincare concerns. Here at Yon-Ka Paris we recommend adjusting your skincare regimen accordingly.
Thorough exfoliation can help you get your skin ready for warmer weather while spending more time outdoors this makes sun protection a priority. Whatever your skin type or your individual skin concerns, we have you covered with these spring skincare tips and tricks.
Get yourself into a weekly exfoliation routine.
During the winter, it’s common for the skin to become dry and flaky. Though the skin has a way of naturally renewing itself, some of those dead cells stick around and it can lead to dull complexion and clogged pores. The best way to renew your skincare routine for spring is to start with exfoliation.
The key to proper exfoliation is to choose a product appropriate for your skin type and then start off slowly. If you want to buff away dead skin cells and imperfections, a facial scrub like
Guarana Scrub might be a good fit. For more sensitive skin types, a gentle, non-granular peel like
Gommage Yon-Ka could be more appropriate. Start with once weekly exfoliation and slowly increase to up to three times weekly.
Switch to a lightweight moisturizer.
Moisture is essential for healthy skin year-round, but as the seasons change so should your moisturizing routine. In the winter, the skin can often benefit from a richer, heavier moisturizer that not only restores hydration but helps protect the skin against cold weather and dryness. In the spring and summer, however, it’s best to switch to a lightweight, quick-absorbing moisturizer.
Rather than slathering on a thick layer of cream in the winter, spring is when you want to opt for lighter layers of hydration. After cleansing, start with a hydrating toner mist before you apply a lightweight moisturizer. For oily skin, fluid moisturizers and mattifying formulas are great for boosting hydration while controlling shine. For sensitive skin, opt for a formula enriched with humectants that draw moisture into the skin, as well as soothing ingredients.
Add an antioxidant booster to your daily skincare routine.
Once it warms up, you won’t want to spend your time cooped up indoors if you can help it. A daily dose of vitamin D is great for your skin, but there are numerous environmental aggressors to be mindful of outside. Pollution, allergens, and free radicals can damage your skin and accelerate the aging process.
Building up your skin’s protective moisture barrier is a great start, but adding an antioxidant-rich booster to your daily routine is recommended as well.
Booster Defense+ features a potent blend of antioxidant extracts and oils to boost the skins’ defenses against environmental damage. Add one or two pumps to your daily moisturizer and apply generously to the face and neck.
Commit to wearing SPF each and every day.
Though it’s important to protect your skin any time of year, if your SPF routine lapsed over the winter, spring is the perfect time to recommit. Skincare experts recommend protecting your skin with SPF 30 or higher and it should be reapplied every two hours you spend outdoors. SPF should be a non-negotiable part of your daily routine if you want healthy skin.
When selecting an SPF, be mindful of the ingredients. It’s still important to choose a formula appropriate for your skin type and it’s best to choose a noncomedogenic product free from synthetic fragrances. Be intentional how you apply the product as well. In order to achieve optimal SPF protection, you may need to use more product than you expect to. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, you need to use a Tablespoon of sunscreen for the entire body and a nickle-sized dollop to the face. Don’t forget to include the neck, ears, and any other exposed areas.
Make masking a twice weekly habit.
As you adjust your skincare routine for spring, start including masks in your weekly regimen. Masking is a great way to give your skin a little extra love without having to significantly alter your daily habits. Whether your skin could use a healthy dose of hydration or you’re struggling with blemishes and breakouts, the right mask can make all the difference.
Clay masks like
Masque 103 and
Masque 105 purify and tighten the skin, making them an excellent option for oily skin types. These formulas clarify and detoxify the skin, minimizing pores and soothing skin irritation from breakouts. For hydration,
Hydra No. 1 Masque is formulated to instantly replenish the skin’s optimal moisture level and defend against skin-aging dehydration. You might even consider an overnight mask like
Glyconight 10%, a creamy sleep mask that amplifies the skin’s luminescence and reduces the signs of fine lines and wrinkles with glycolic acid.
Get a head start on hydration.
The chill of winter can wreak havoc on your skin, but warmer weather isn’t always a recipe for hydration. The warmer it gets, the more you sweat and that equals moisture loss. Whether you’re planning to spend a lot of time outdoors or you’re ramping up your workout routine, protect your skin with added hydration so you don’t find yourself backpedaling later.
On top of your daily moisturizer, consider adding a toner like
Lotion Yon-Ka to your routine. Apply toner after cleansing while the skin is still damp and pat it into your skin with your fingertips before applying moisturizer. Toner is used specifically to deliver a boost of hydration and help rebalance the skin as well.
Invest in a contour cream to prevent crows’ feet.
Springtime means more sun and, as much as you might appreciate the brightness after a dreary winter, squinting can lead to fine lines and wrinkles forming around the eyes. Maintaining a daily moisturizing routine can certainly help protect your skin against the dehydration that makes the visible signs of aging more apparent, those with mature skin might want to consider adding a contour cream.
Contour cream or eye cream is uniquely formulated for the fragile, sensitive skin around the eyes. These products provide moisture, but they tend to be less irritating than standard facial moisturizers.
Alpha-Contour is a two-in-one contour cream that hydrates and revitalizes the skin. Featuring hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this formula smooths and hydrates the skin to reduce visible signs of aging.
