How it's obtained
Distillation of candeia or chamomile essential oil, followed by purification of natural bisabolol.
Typical concentration
0.1% to 1%; effective at very low doses.

Appearance: colorless to pale yellow oily liquid; Scent: soft floral, slightly spicy.

Did you know?A little history

Bisabolol is one of the reasons chamomile has soothed since antiquity: it wasn't isolated and named until 1951.

First extracted from chamomile, which contains only a few percent, it now mainly comes from candeia wood, a Brazilian tree whose essential oil contains up to 85%. Responsible cultivation has made it an affordable, sustainable active1.

A natural anti-inflammatory, bisabolol inhibits several mediators of skin inflammation, which explains its rapid effect on redness. It also has gentle antimicrobial activity and helps the actives that accompany it penetrate1.
